Homemade Bone Broth
Bone broth has many health benefits; it is a rich, nutritious food. Bone broth is best to drink. It can also be used to cook, but why waste all its goodness when you could have a nice warm cup for breakfast or a snack? It contains protein, collagen, and minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. It may help improve bone and joint health, promote weight loss, and improve your hair, skin, and nails. There are so many wonderful benefits. It is a good staple recipe. Many store-bought bone broths contain additives; you will surely have the best ingredients by cooking your own. Equipment
- 1 Crockpot
- 1 Strainer
Ingredients
- 4 pounds Beef bones short ribs, knuckle bones, oxtail
- 3 Carrots
- 2 Onions
- 1 Leek
- 1 Garlic bulb
- 2 Bay leaves
- 10 Parsley springs
- 2 teaspoons Peppercorns
- 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Roughly chop carrots, celery, and onion
- Cut leek lengthwise
- Peel garlic, do not cut
- Place beef bones, carrots, celery, onions, leek, and garlic onto a non-stick baking tray.
- Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, until lightly brown
- Then transfer to crockpot, and cover with water.
- Add the remainder ingrediencies
- Cook on low for 9-12 hours, the longer the better
- After cooked, strain into a bowl, then let cool
- Mason jars are a great to store in the refrigerator
- This bone broth will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator, or you can freeze it in the proper freezer container (not in mason jars)
