Homemade Pizza

Homemade pizza is a true winner! A crowd pleasure; from kiddos to adults, we all love a good slice of pizza. You can customize this to accommodate your taste buds; I love a simple pizza with good ingredients. This is a great one to incorporate the kiddos; our daughter enjoys kneading the dough and adding toppings, a wonderful bonding time.
This recipe will make one 18-inch pizza.

Equipment

  • 16 inch pizza baking pan

Ingredients

  • 1 + ¼ cups warm water, 105-110˚F·
  • ½ tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ tbsp salt
  • 3 + ⅓ cups all-purpose Flour plus more for surface and working the dough
  • 1 tsp honey

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, stir together water, honey, and salt, then sprinkle the top with 1/2 tsp yeast and set is aside for 5 minutes, then stir.

    2. Add 3+1/3 cups flour to a large mixing bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture, then stir with a spatula until the dough comes together. Knead by hand for 2 minutes (dough will be sticky). Cover the bowl with a towel and let rise at room temperature for 4-5 hours or until doubled in size.

      3. Transfer dough to a floured surface, and coat lightly in flour. Fold dough in half 8 times, pulling the sides over the center, turning the dough each time, and repeating for 8 folds. Form a ball in your hands and transfer the dough to a lightly oiled or floured bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight, the dough will last up to 1 week.

        4. Remove the dough from the fridge, and set it on the counter top about 1 hour until it's room temperature, oil the pan with olive oil.

          5. When the dough is at room temperature, transfer 1/2 to a floured surface. Start shaping the dough in the shape of the pan, do not pop bubbles.

            6. Oil the pan with olive oil. Place dough on the pan and start shaping, leaving edges thicker forming round crust edges.

              7. Preheat to 550˚F. Continue working the dough until a pizza has formed. Spread on desired pizza sauce and toppings. Slide pizza onto the preheated pizza and bake at 550˚F for 8-10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
