Top 10 COZY things to do in FALL

Exciting, Fall is here! Fall is the perfect time of year to start the coziest family traditions. The calendar New Year starts in January, but I always feel the New Year begins in the Fall. It’s the kickstart to new beginnings and celebrating.

Gods give us the natural beauty that comes with change; seasons! How gorgeous are Fall colors? How yummy is pumpkin spice coffee? The air even smells different!

The magical way the earth changes during this time of year takes us out of our comfort zone. Some of us are preparing our kiddos to have a GOOD school year, getting our routines in order.  Others may be preparing homes, gardens, and clothing for colder weather. Either way, it’s a NEW start!

As time passes and having a child and a family, I have become intentional about creating family traditions. I love seeing our little girl’s eyes light up when we tell her we are going to a pumpkin patch, something we have done every year since she was three.

Traditions are essential. They provide a sense of stability and help us connect with our roots. The practice contributes to a sense of comfort and belonging. How spectacular is that?

In the past, I was very minimal on spending during the holidays, and I found it to be a waste. My perspective has changed; building traditions and creating memories sometimes require spending. Budgeting for such expenses makes it a peaceful, enjoyable season.

I found a great, printable Fall Bucket List to share.

I also wanted to share our Fall family’s favorite things to do.

TOP 10 Fall Family Favorites

Decorate Outside

1. This is a simple way to connect with your neighbors and give joy to others while using your creativity and building memories with the kiddos. It does not have to be complicated; make a budget you are comfortable with, write down your idea, and shop with purpose.

Go to a Local Pumpkin Patch

2. You can purchase pumpkins at the grocery store, but it’s much more exciting at a farm; supporting the locals always warms my heart. Usually, there will be homemade food and cider to sip on, sometimes even a hay ride!

Start Halloween Early

3. As an adult, I was not much of a celebrate Halloween type of gal, but with a little girl, it adds a new layer of fun! We purchased our Halloween costumes in September; it gives us an extra four weeks to play dress-up together.

Buy one thing for Christmas.

4. Get ahead of the holidays and purchase one thing for your Christmas décor. This time of year, thrift stores have good  Christmas décor finds; it’s a great time to pick up some nostalgic pieces.

Cook a Homemade Soup

5. Flu season usually accurse in the Fall and Winter. Homemade soup packed with nutrient-dense foods can build and keep your immune system up. Try this simple family favorite recipe, and cook it together.  It is a cozy way to spend the evening.

Night Bike Ride

6. When I was growing up, I am not sure if people started putting holiday twinkling lights out this time of year, but they sure do now. We love going for a long evening bike ride and looking at the lights. We start when it’s still light out and ride until evening; looking at the décor and chit-chatting, it’s simple fun. Be sure to ride safely. Here are some bike riding safety tips.

Purchase a WoodWick candle

7. These are my favorite candles; nothing says Fall more than burning wood, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice scents. What makes Woodwick candles so unique? They make a crackling sound. You can purchase them at a discounted price at TJ Max.

Drink Pumpkin Spiced Coffee

8. Go to your favorite coffee shop, and pick up a pumpkin-spiced latte and a hot chocolate for the kiddos. Then put on your favorite relaxing tunes and go for a long drive; it’s Christmas in a cup! Or, if you want to make your own, here is a homemade pumpkin spiced latte recipe.

Watch 80’s movies

9. Why do I love 80’s movies more this year? I don’t know, but here are some of my favorites Uncle Buck, Plane trains and automobiles, Karate kid, and E.T. They are extra cozy this time of year.

Buy Fall/Winter staple pieces of clothing

10. Purchasing your staple fall/winter pieces of clothing can help with having a cohesive wardrobe and not overspending by buying random pieces. I have a minimal wardrobe, much like a capsule wardrobe.  I like to have my uniform ready for each season.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we do! It’s a magical time of year and can best be appreciated by slowing down and doing the things we love.
